The Official Post-ETS Results Topic

Recommended Posts

Wow, this is such a great survey! Thank you Sweatsucks for putting it together, and thank you all who have responded to it! I just now came across this topic. I am commenting as I think many of the newer members have not seen this, and by commenting it will come at the top of the forum again.

Also, I was hoping that the people who commented within a year post surgery, will take the survey again ( @sitries, @ETSsuccess, @sweatsucks) To see if it was the so called "honeymoon period" or if you still have the same results as previously stated.

I would also like to point out that all of the questions in this survey are really well thought out! I see some comments about not understanding the reason for some of the questions, but answers to all of the questions are really helpful for people considering having the ETS-surgery. For instance is the question about drinking alcohol and being overweight asked, as these are factors that can increase the amount of sweating a person is experiencing (Regardless of having the surgery or not). The question about which surgeon you used is asked to see if side effects could have to do with how the individual surgeon performed in correlation to the experienced side effects, to see if it might be a pattern, etc.

Again, thank you to all of you have responded to this survey, and my hope is that all people who see this survey, and have had the ETS surgery done, will take just a few minutes out of their lives to answer this :)

1. Where are you from? (State/Country)

Denmark

2. Gender (Male/Female)

Male

3. Age (10-19 / 20-29 / 30-39 / etc.)

20-29

4. Do you regularly smoke or drink or take drugs?

Drink occasionally.

5. Are you overweight?

No, athletic.

6. Have you had any surgeries or health problems before having the surgery? (high blood pressure, etc.)

No. My mom has high blood pressure and is medicated due to it.

7. What did you MAINLY have ETS for?

Facial blushing.

8. How would you rate the severity of your condition? Explain

Moderate to severe. I avoid situations I know there is a risk I might blush but I still go and suck it up if it's something I have to do (presentations, interviews etc.). My life is pretty much influenced/directed by the likeliness of me blushing in situations - I don't get to do things I maybe wanted to.

9. Which section(s) did the doctor cut or clamp? (T2, T3, T4)

T2 on both sides.

10. Any complications, if any, during the surgery? (ie: problem with collapsing the lungs, or air getting in)

Had a small pocket of air trapped between lungs and ribs post-surgery, but nothing troublesome.

11. When did you have the surgery? (Month/Year)

7-8 months ago.

12. Who was your doctor? (Name/State)

-

13. List the positive outcome, if any, from the surgery

None. The problems I had before surgery remain the same.

14. List the negative outcome, or side effects, if any, from the surgery (BE SPECIFIC! If you're unsure, please be careful from stating it as fact or an opinion; use "I think" if in doubt)

Excessive sweating: I sweat a lot more than I used to do, especially around the chest and back. I've noticed it's very prominent especially in the morning shortly after clocking in at work. If I work out in the morning, I've "released" the sweat and I won't sweat from just sitting at the office desk. When I sweat, it's sometimes so severe that I have to go to the toilet to wipe it off chest and back. Coffee and hot or spicy food also triggers it at any time of the day.

Dry skin: My hands have become incredibly dry and I have to use lotion almost every day. It's hard/impossible to open plastic bags in the supermarket or slide my credit card out of my wallet.

Heart rate: I have a hard time reaching the same maximum heart rate level as I were able to before surgery. However, I don't think my physical performance has decreased. I do a lot of high-intensity sports (running and mountainbiking) and also competitively.

15. Are you happy with the surgery?

No, I wish I didn't do it.

16. What is your nationality?

-

17. Does any other family member(s) suffer from the same condition?

My mother might do, but never confirmed. My sister also shows traces of it at times, but not nearly as critical as my symptoms.

*18 (optional). Any other comments or suggestions

I wish I didn't get the surgery although I was warned by the doctor beforehand. However, with 95% of the surgeries he performs reporting good results, I was able to accept the risk. I have to deal with it today and look for alternative solutions to my blushing. Next things I'm looking to try at this point will be laser treatment and psychological treatment. I want to do the things I want and not hide the person I know I really am anymore.
