Is the singularity near?

Recommended Posts

If you guys have read or heard of that book by Ray Kurzweil, do you believe that the singularity is inevitable?

Do you believe that technological progress is occurring at an exponential rate and that the future is going to be dictated by genetics, nanotechnology and robotics (GNR).

What will all this mean for human emotions such as love, hatred, greed, misery, loneliness, spirit etc...?

Is it a good time to be living, or a depressing time where we will lose what makes us human?

For as long as 'science' and then 'technology' have existed, we've had anti-technology thinkers that predicted that technology would be our downfall. But for every 'anti-tech' thinker, there is a 'pro-tech' argument. Some say, that technology will be the only thing to save the human race when the earth becomes inhospitable again, as it has cyclically done so for thousands of thousands of years... Like when the next ice age returns or the big asteroid hits.

The future is what we make of it. We've always had people that can live without love, without emotions and embracing hatred and greed. In all times throughout history, not just recently. Fortunately, we've always had people who choose love over greed and make this world a better place.

In other words, singularity has always existed...regardless of our level of technology or advancement.

Thank goodness for that!
