Alright, I just wanted to post this because it is the only thing that I have found that works. First, magnesium is a cheap over the counter mineral that i have found to be very effective. It really helps with my blushing. In fact, if I start to blush, it will not last nearly as long. Please try this. Second, if some one is interested in finding a prescription drug, I have found that Catapres is the best (I use the patch version that only has to be replaced once a week). It’s not for depression or anxiety, so it doesn’t make you feel weird. My only complaint is that it lowered my already low blood pressure. Lastly, I am going to throw this out because you may be interested in it. It’s called Kava Kava. Actually, it’s the natural drink of Fiji; its sort of the opposite of coffee. It doesn't make you tired but just content and comfortable. You can buy it online or go to a health store. iamshamn.com sells it in a dropper version (5X). It’s not as powerful as the drink but allows you to relax and is natural.
If anybody has used any of these, I would be interested to hear what you think. Finally I highly recommend that you try the magnesium.

Hey Brett, Im intrested in trying out Magnesium.
Is there more than just one kind of magnesium tablets and how much do you take? What is the science behinf magnesium helping you with blushing? Does it just make the blush shorter, or does it actually stop blushing?
Sorry for all the questions.

OK, so we know that the most common use for clonidine (generic/chemical name for Catapres) is for decreasing blood pressure. It's really a great drug and saved for more severe cases of hypertension. It's strong and works fast. The duration of effect of a tablet (comes in 0.1mg, 0.2mg and 0.3mg) in most patients (with no severe kidney problems) is usually around 8 or so hours, so generally patients have to take it three times a day to keep their blood pressure nice, low and regular. The downside is that although it's awesome at keeping blood pressure low, the withdrawal effect of it is pretty tough too. Which means that "missed" or forgotten doses by the patients that use it can be dangerous... For this reason, the drug company decided to develop the Catapres patch which delivers the drug slowly over time avoiding dangerous highs & lows. It comes in "Catapres-TTS-1" which delivers enough drug equivalent to taking a 0.1mg tablet every 8 hours for 7 days. Pretty neat, huh? Gotta Love pharmaceutical devices! The Patch also comes in "Catapres-TSS-2" and "Catapres-TSS-3" which deliver 0.2mg every 8hrs over 7 days and 0.3mg every 8hrs over 7 days, respectively.
Anyway. Enough drug talk for now. Hope this helps instead of confusing! Very Happy

Thanks Vicky for the detailed explanation, helped allot Smile
Sorry ive got a few more questions Crying or Very sad
Does the body build up a tolerence to this drug, or would I be able to take it for months and months? I now how you explained that drugs are an every day part of life..caffine for example, but does'nt clonidine effect the heart? I would be weary about taking a drug which affected my heartrate, sounds kinda risky. How ready would a doctor be to presribe it?
Once again Im sorry about all the boring questions Vicky.

It's my pleasure to help, if I can. Wink
One of the effects of clonidine is to regulate (slow down) heart rate as well as many other meds used for high blood pressure tend to do. That's why your doc will start you at the lowest dose effective dose, check that your heart rate is still within a healthy rate and see if the drug is helping for whatever indication they decide to prescribe it for. Every drug has it's risks, heck, Aspirin at higher doses can make your stomach bleed too, but that hasn't stopped us from using a few when we need it, right? At least be comforted in the fact that Inderal (propranolol) is one of the drugs used for high blood pressure, used by FB'ers for performance anxiety and many other conditions and it affects heart rate far more than clonidine does. The important thing is to take the dose prescribed (don't double-up your doses without telling your doc -more is not always better) and stay in touch with your doc for adequate monitoring. Tolerance to caffeine is very common but fortunately not much tolerance has been seen with clonidine. Hope this helps!

Hello! Thanks alot VickyGirl for answering all the questions. First, I take just regular over the counter magnesium, any brand should do. It might be helpful to take calcium with this supplement too. This will prevent cramping. I can get the name brand that I use, just let me know if you want that info. Also, a multi-vit will help but I recommend that you take a seperate larger dose of just the magnesium. For the science, I have no idea (It does help control insulin levels). I did notice it on a forum that I read about a day ago though, even though I have been taking it for a couple months now. The StarMan mentioned taking it with other minerals so that he could detox his body of mercury (you should check out what he has to say, its interesting). My dose is 250mg, but i have taken it twice in one day with absolutely no side effects (magnesium isn't bad for you).
Secondly, The patch is very convenient. Im currenlty not on it because I wanted to try other things, but it is the most effective drug for me. I recommend taking some ibuprofen/ tylenol and to drink absolutely no caffeine during the day with everything else and you should see a big difference. One final thing, you should design a diet that his high on the Glycemic Index. This will control your insulin levels. Try out the G.I. diet. With the right foods, your body wont get huge spikes in suger levels and then cause you to blush.

I use Natures Way Magnesium 250mg. It a cheaper supplement. Hope this helps! Please let me know if it works with you guys. It would be interesting to see. Maybe there is a link that could help us find a cure. In the next few days i hope to get a blood test to check my mercury levels (see TheStarmans post) too. I will get back with the results.

How have you been doing on the magnesium? Any changes to your blushing? Did you just try this alone or with anything else?

Cheers

hey, I brought a month's supply of magnesium for around £5, which is very cheap. I feel that its helped allot with my anxiety, and havnt been blushing much recently, whether that has anything to do with magnesium im not sure. I would definetly say that its helped with anxiety.

How much magnesium are you taking per day and when are you taking it? I am thinking of picking some up when I finish my 'Stress Formula with herbs' which I have been using for a week but haven't really been able to tell if they are making a difference. These have 140mg per tablet (you take 2 tabs a day). Are you taking more than 280mg a day?

Cheers Very Happy
