Myself and hyper_hydro recieved a reply from the author of the 'Botox delivery by iontophoresis' case report posted a while back.
http://www.sweathelp.org/PDF/BotoxDeliveryByIontophoresis.pdf
Here's her update on the progress of the treatment:

I'm confident that Botox can be delivered iontophoretically, but getting it to the stage where it is practical in a clinical setting is the major hurdle. We tried soaking nylon and cotton gloves in Botox solution after pre-blocking to prevent non-specific protein binding of Botox to the gloves, and then treating on standard ionto.units, but that was'nt effective. We have tried Iomed gel sponge delivery pads also with little success. We think binding of Botox to the gel may be a problem as it does appear to preferentially bind to whatever medium introduced as a means of keeping the Botox solution in contact with the skin. The small resevoir worked as it involved solution only and you only have 5mls or so to work with.

| Hyper is totally against medication for sweating. why would he want to play around with having Botox sucked up into his system? i have sweaty hands, and i wouldn't dream of using Botox in such a way. remember what this stuff is guys! |

As far as I know Hyper_hydro is interested in this treatment, and it would mean only 1 treatment every few months or so, no pain in the ass maintenance treatments every week. People have botox injections for axillary HH so why not use this for hands and feet. I don't think the doctors would devise this if it would be dangerous to the body in any way. |

This method of application would also give more uniform treatment than injections all over your hands. _________________ UK age23 |

| I wonder how you would control the amount of botox taken in my the skin? I would imagine there's a fine line between paralyzing your sweat glands and paralyzing your entire arm. |

thanks for the update, I contacted them some two or three years ago and thought this process was more advanced than what it is sounding. They were in the process of on-going trials, which means they would have a way to deliver it, no? This is something I would think that someone with determination and time could quickly come up with a solution. It would also help us blushers and flushers. |

You can paralyse your arms with injections. If they can get the dose right for injections surely they can do it with Ionto? _________________ UK age23 |

| With that 22 year old female case study it says there was a "80%+ reduction in sweat. There were no side effects." |

Thought i'd bump this up again. I contacted Gina again to get any kind of update on this. Here's her reply:

Hi,
thanks for getting in touch again. We have had problems getting delivery of Botox to larger areas to work, largely because we belive it is binding to whatever mediuim we use to keep the solution in contact with the skin. Research funding and bureaucracy make it increasingly difficult to carry out clinical research, so I'm afraid we've made little progress with this project.

Looks like this isn't going to be an available treatment any time soon |
